an older dog and a new trick

Penny taught herself something new the other day. She collected two different items as she was swimming in the Yarra river.

We had been playing with her Whirl Wheel,

alternating it with her SafeStix.

She would drop one near the bank and swim out for the other. But on this occasion she absentmindedly took the WhirlWheel with her as she swam. We watched as she circled around for ages, trying to figure out how to get them both back to the shore.

And then, to our surprise (you'll hear on the video clip that we were a bit over-excited, lol) she swam with both in her mouth.

Here she is, arriving triumphant on the shore!

Good for her! I always think you CAN teach an older dog new tricks.

Cute! Isn't it like one of those logic puzzles where you need to figure out how to take both to shore...she figured it out!

HI Penny - long time no woof! I'm finally starting to catch up with blog friends! It's great to see you having fun (and that's a very clever new trick!)

I know I've missed a lot of your posts - I think I'll have to come back to read those - but just wanted to say a quick hello and thank you for all the lovely comments you have left on my blog recently!

Slobbers,
Honey the Great Dane

curator, it's like humans. We used to think that as we got older we had to stop learning. We know different these days.

Two Pitties, it's lovely to hear from you. I'll have to pop over to your blog and catch up.

Mitch and Molly, she was so proud of herself!

proud womon, I think you would like the Whirl Wheel better than a ball, because it doesn't bounce high and lead to the dog twisting in the air to leap for it. Much safer, in my opinion.

Honey and Hsin-Yi, as I said on your blog, I felt so concerned about what you were going through that it felt bad to be blogging about the fun we were having. That's why I've been a bit quiet the last little while.

So it's extra exciting to see Honey returning to good health and, of course, your new online store sounds super interesting.
