dogs and edible weeds

In the park the other day I was intrigued to see Penny investigating a patch of mallow.

I'm super interested in edible weeds lately, and thought maybe Penny had joined me in the search for free comestibles. (Just had to dash across to Dictionary.com to check whether I'd used this word correctly, because it's the first time I ever got a chance to write it!)

Here's Penny investigating the mallow.

Here's a closer look at her and the weeds:

But wait a minute! What was her rear end doing? Oh, no, that's why I don't gather edibles from the dog park.

She was eating weeds soon afterwards - her favourite - grass. I hope she checked first that no one had peed on it.

Mitch and Molly, Penny will only eat certain grasses. She's very choosy about which ones.

I heard a new word this morning, aphelion - the point at which a part of the planet is furthest from the sun - and that was Melbourne (and probably other parts of Australia) this morning at 5am. No wonder it is cold.

Correction, it was the day all of the earth was at its furthest from the sun for this year. I looked it up here: http://www.universetoday.com/121101/catching-earth-at-aphelion/

Mary, great new word. I'll aim to use it soon, lol. But you know what, maybe the part of the planet tilted in a certain way might be minimally further away from the sun... I guess I don't really understand it, even after all those classroom demonstrations with basketballs and oranges.

L
assie and Benji, I think you dogs have a duty to teach us humans to appreciate the food all around us.

Ha! Mum goes foraging around our area for edible weeds for the bunnies. She tries to pick from up high and wash it first though. hehe.
Thanks for the new word!

Ludo, I guess the bunnies have good strong stomachs, so maybe there's not so much washing needed. Or maybe it's not fair of me to say that, because I don't really know enough about bunnies. They sure seem like good survivors here in Australia!
