I'm feeling wrung out, because I've just watched all the video clips on the Oscar's Law site. It's a site devoted to the fight to abolish the cruel trade of puppy farming.
Today I attended the Oscar's Law rally on the steps of the Victorian Parliament.
After listening to the speakers, I gathered that there has been a law passed in Victoria, but there have not been any prosecutions. (I'm not entirely sure I've got that right, but I did understand from all speakers that the government has not followed up on their promises with either money or resources.)
When I forced myself to watch the videos, I was disappointed to realise that we haven't ended the conditions in which dogs are starving to death, dying of preventable cancers, going insane, suffering endlessly.
I thought the suggestion in the following clip sounded helpful - that puppies should have to come with certification that says the breeding facility has been inspected by the RSPCA and is suitable and humane.
WARNING: the video segment is very sad and disturbing.
Here are a few photos from the rally:

How can human beings permit this suffering? What greed....Oh...
We started to watch the video and then switched it off. It's too upsetting to watch. We wish there was no such thing as puppy farms and puppy mills. They're just horrible.
Love ya lots,
Mitch and Molly
i was there too parlance... there were many tears when debra tranter spoke, and i was 'blown away' by the passion of elizabeth anile from ataac (australian teenagers against animal cruelty) spoke... the future is definitely in their hands...
Curator, we're a greedy species, aren't we? It must be something innate in the human species, something we have to constantly consciously fight against. That's why rallies like this are important.
I also think it's why our blogs are important. We have to speak to each other and reassure ourselves that humans can be generous and loving to other humans and to the species who share this one and only planet with us.
Mitch and Molly, I hope my warning was obvious enough. I thought there would be many people who would not want to watch the video. I don't usually post things like this, or watch them. I know that terrible things happen and I believe that without seeing it myself. I can understand why you switched the video off.
proud womon, as I said on your blog, if you hadn't posted about the upcoming rally I wouldn't have even known about it. Many thanks for helping to spread the message.
Together we can make a difference.
It was very disturbing to watch the video and I admit I had tears rolling down my face, but I got through it in order to understand Oscar's Law. I hope that it serves to stop this cruelty. Animals deserve to be loved, not mistreated.
Hi Bella
thanks for the comment. It's awful to watch things like this, isn't it? To a certain extent I can't face seeing cruelty, and I usually take the word of people I trust to tell me something terrible should be opposed.
On the other hand, sometimes we have to look in order to know what we are opposing. So thanks for looking at it.
