helpful dogs

Penny tries to help us with the work around the house. For instance, if we mow the lawn and don't rake up the cut grass, she will roll in it over the next few days. Thus she is able to bring quite a lot of it inside the house so that we can all share that refreshing aroma of cut grass.

When we had a mysterious plague of freshly-hatched blowflies (I shudder to think where they were coming from, but it seemed to be from the roof-space) she was on the job 24/7, eating them as soon as they arrived at floor level.

If a minute speck of food falls to the floor she acts as a one-dog disposal squad.

However, she isn't up to the standard of Connie, The Dog Who Cleans And Does Laundry.

Amongst other tasks, Connie, a beautiful newfoundland, places dirty clothes inside the washing machine, puts a detergent ball inside, and then turns on the machine with her paw. Wow! Later, Connie moves the washed clothes to the dryer.

Okay... but aren't newfies champion droolers?

I never help my mommy with the housework. I'm doing enough jobs already... How much more can I do when I'm already gonna become a mommy myself too? I'm getting married tomorrow.

Penny you are a great help and that Connie. What can I say? I'm not going to let mom read this! She might want me to do stuff.

Amber-Mae, good luck with the 'ceremony'. I hope you have lots of fun. This is very exciting!!!

Slavenk, I agree. Ironing is horrible. I think in the twenty-first century we should be saving the earth's resources by not ironing anything ;-)

Hi! Amber's mommy here,

The mating was not successful today. We tried to make Amber mate with Big Boy(the gorgeous Golden who did the car tv commercial) but it did not happen. 1st of all, Amber hates him to hell & she refused to let him do it. He on the other hand, was not excited & did not know what he was doing. He's not a proven stud nor is Amber. The both are still virgins & don't know anything. Amber kept on bullying BB too becoz he's a softy so, it was a very stressful day both for Amber & us. So we've given up & maybe we'll try again in next six months time.

Man. I wish my dog (named Cash) would do...uh...anything. Well, he's really good at sleeping on the couch when we're not looking! : )

To Amber-Mae-s mum: I'm sorry to hear that you both had such a stressful day. It must have been upsetting and I hope you can relax and recover from the day. I haven't had any experience of that sort of situation and I imagine it must have been distressing. I guess Amber-Mae will soon forget all about it, but we humans have a habit of remembering the past. I hope it will go better next time.

Curator, I reckon sleeping, even on the couch, is a dog's job. Sometimes when I'm stressing out about everything, I hear a soft sigh from Penny as she snoozes on the floor and I can feel the relaxing vibes radiating out from her.
