home made dog toys for intelligent interaction
I made the toy that I posted about a few hours ago and it is great! It took about two minutes to make and Penny is wild to play with it. The surprising thing is that she got the idea immediately. I put a bit of peanut butter on the cardboard 'slider' but she was more interested in the smell of the treat inside the tube. I think she got the idea so quickly because of having played with the great Aussie Dog toy that I mentioned on 20th September..

Slavenka, your English is good. Certainly better than my Croatian! (I can't speak it at all!)
Ooo, what kind of home-made toy is that? Looks fun & Penny is sooo smart to have figure it out.
About the 'Elephant' trick, we did what you do with Penny at 1st. Go around with her first then slowly, I just use my hand with the treat in it & circle around her nose so that she will turn around by herself. Same thing like teaching the dog to 'twirl'(spin while standing on hind legs). Then after a while, you just give her the command & a signal. Not that hard actually...
Love licks,

Hi Penny. I like your blog! You're a pretty little pooch, he he.
Sparky
Hey, Amber-Mae, thanks for the info on the elephant trick. Penny knows the 'spin' so I'll try out the next step as you describe.
Yep, this toy is good fun and it didn't cost anything. It's the one I tried to describe in the last post. Just a cardboard cylinder with a piece of paper through it and a treat balanced on the paper. I'm going to try it with two slots and two pieces of paper, so she has to pull out one piece of paper and then the next.
I've been looking at the German site I mentioned and they have the most fabulous intelligent games in Europe! I'm going to try to order some and then I'll write a post about how it goes. (It'll be months before they come, I guess - that's the trouble with living at the end of the world!
But my sister is visiting Spain - I'm going to ask her to look out for European games.
I was really impressed with Penny's quick response to the cylinder trick. smart Princess!! My response would be to grab the cylinder and run off with it.
Jabari
Jabari, I think you might be descended from Alexander the Great's dog.
Do you remember that when Alexander was asked to figure out the Gordian knot, he just grabbed it and cut it in half. I think you would have done that also - if you could hold a sword, of course.
Sparky, thanks for the visit. I enjoyed your blog, too. I've added it to my list of sites that I check up on regulalry.
