the beloved green mat returns

If you look at this clip of Penny settling down on her beloved old green mat, you'll understand why it has been hidden in the cupboard for the eight weeks since her surgery on her knee.

It had been brought out twice over the last few weeks and each time Penny terrified me by her enthusiasm for it. To her dismay it was snatched away each time and put on the shelf.

But I reckon, after eight weeks, it's time to let her enjoy it. That leg is certainly getting plenty of Passive Range of Movement exercise.

Here's an article I've just come across, by Greg Harasen, discussing the benefits of postoperative physical therapy.

Yes, I can totally see where you are coming from here, and you were wise. But what a great day for Penny!

Directed by Parlance! Opportunity taken by Parlance. I don't think there was any directing going on. It is good to see Penny so happy with her mat.

So cute! It's funny how excited she gets.

Mary, my direction consisted of holding the camera. Wasn't that enough?

Curator, Two Pitties and Maggie and Mitch, I must admit that when I looked at this clip again today, my nerve failed me and the mat is back in the cupboard.

I'll get it out tomorrow - surely such ecstasy every two days should be enough for her.

Hi, Penny. We're two American rescued dogs; we found your blog at Honey's blog. Thank you for the good info on doggie physical therapy. A good friend, a German Shepherd, had the same surgery recently and I don't think he got the same good guidance about PT. So we sent his mom a link to your site. Hope it will help him heal. Good luck with you recovery. You seem to be doing great. Abby totally relates to the need to shake the bedding and move it around. Just good housekeeping, isn't it, to air the bedding.

Hi, Jed and Abby, I hope your friend heals well. Penny's best friend is a beautiful long-haired German Shepherd, but they haven't met for months, because the friend, Jabari, is a wonderfully playful dog. I can't wait until Penny is strong enough to go walking with Jabari.

Good choice to put it up, but I'm glad she gets to enjoy it again!

Oskar, I have to admit, I lost my nerve and put it away again. I'll get it out when she's passed nine weeks.
