dog world record holder for water balancing

Penny and I are going to work on jumping a rope one of these days... Well, it's rather warm in Oz these days and we can't be bothered with energetic tricks at the moment. However, Sweet Pea's act would be hard to beat. She holds the canine record for jumping rope the most times in one minute.

However, her other trick is fantastic. She can climb a set of stairs whilst balancing a glass of water on her nose. I came across the link at Spluch, a general-interest blog. Here's Sweet Pea doing her tricks. The water-balancing trick begins at 1:56 minutes.

WOOOOW!!! That was just AMAZING!!! I could NEVER do that in a million years! Maybe my mommy should start training me to balance a glass of water on mah nose becoz I'm actually no good at balancing stuff... I tilt mah head toooo high! Anyway, I can't stand this balancing trick. I think it's very annoying! I'm very impressed with her & she's 10? Wooow, great dog! I gotta learn how to skip rope too but I'm no agile dog & can't jump on one spot. Aren't I lousy? Penny, you should have no prob doing the jumping rope tricks becoz you're small, light & agile. You 1st gotta learn how to jump over your mum's arm. Noticed, he bent low & made the rope look like his extended arm? That's how you learn how to jump rope...

Wow, what a great act! I wonder if dogs really enjoy doing such very difficult (and unnatural to dog) tricks as balancing a glass on the nose and walking upstairs. Or do they perform to please their much loved owner?
I know Penny enjoys her tricks but they are more natural to dog behaviour- especially when there is a food reward at the end of the task.

Amber-Mae, now I remember! That's what you told me last time I was thinking of seeing whether Penny would like the rope-jumping trick. I have to bend down, though... I find that a bit hard because my back is not so good. I wonder if jumping over a short stick would work? What do you think?

Jabari, I wonder also whether that trick was asking a lot of a dog... I noticed that the dog took off into the crowd every time she had a chance. On the other hand, I think I remember that her tail was wagging. Not when she was concentrating on the trick with the water, of course.

Yeah, you can also use a stick or any types of poles to teach Penny the jump trick. You can even use the hoola hoop! It's quite easy to teach her how to jump over the stick/pole/ your arm. Just place it low on the ground so that she can go over it a few times whilst saying the command you wanna use for the trick. Then slowly lift it higher & higher & higher. Lift it as high as Penny can jump.

Thanks, Amber-Mae. We'll try it with a stick.
