more about dogs eating tripe

It looks as if Penny isn't going to get any nice (uggghhh) tripe. I've questioned three butchers now and all say the same thing. It is not permitted to sell green (unwashed) tripe in butcher shops. It isn't allowed to leave the abattoir, my own local butcher says. I'll have to try to discover whether pet-meat shops sell it.

Maybe tripe is good for dogs but it smells awful.

I really enjoy reading all of your informative posts! My favorite recently was the post on love between humans and dogs. Thanks for all your good research and sharing it with us!

We've not seen any green un-washed tripes here also...

Slavenka, when I was a child butchers always had a great slab of tripe in the window but I think it must have gone out of fashion here.

Rusty, thanks for that. I enjoy reading your adventures too. I think Penny loves possums (a local marsupial about as big as a cat) in the same way as you love squirrels. We were outside barking at a couple of them last night. (Well, actually, Penny was doing the barking and I was doing the shushing). The mother just went ahead chewing placidly on the tips of the leaves but the gorgeous little baby was a bit worried. I sure hope that as they do their aerobatic tricks around our garden they never lose their balance!

Amber-Mae, do you eat the washed tripe, then?

Yeap, the white clean washed tripe. Don't think my hoomans can even take the sight of unwashed green tripes...They get very squeamish.

Okay, Amber-Mae, if your humans can stach it in the house, so can I! I'll be brave and try out some tripe for Penny. Thanks for the help.

Amber-Mae, I meant 'stand it in the house". My typing fingers must have gone crazy.
