a short story about a mischievous dog

After reading Raven's blog post about her childhood dog, an intelligent and determined GSD called Freia, I realise what a saint Penny is.

Raven was the winner of a Thanksgiving short story contest in which the prize was a donation to a charity of the winner's choice. She wrote about the day Freia scoffed the Thanksgiving Day pies...

I loved the story, but I think the dog was lucky to survive the family's wrath!

Thanksgiving day, and mother's in the kitchen frantically cooking, and cooking. I discovered your blog and found your posts to be very informative. I'm more of a goofball, but I also need to be aware of such things as dangerous kangaroos.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I can imagine scoffing off the pies might not be very good for the diet either..... How is Penny's weighty issue going?

Theregatha, we're trying the weight-reducing technique of not weighing Penny. That way we don't have to worry, lol.

Maggie and Mitch I'm glad you loved the story.

Twinkletinydog, I popped over to your blog and I can see you're a hero, so I think if any kangaroos try to boss you around you will deal with them quite assertively.

That's a really interesting story! Thanks for sharing it here. LS ought to be thankful that I don't steal food :-) But I'm not a saint like Penny though LOL.

Happy, Penny's also no saint, really. There was the time we left a big packet of sweet biscuits (cookies) on the table...

I just think Penny, and maybe you, Happy, are saints in comparison to bad dog, lol.

Thank you for reading my story. lol. It's funny, everyone keeps saying how the story brings back memories. I can only wonder, what kind?

I think dog lovers know and accept that pie thievery is something that comes with owning a dog, among the many other things.

But we do love our pups, even the naughtiest ones. And then we grow up to tell the stories to our children. OR maybe feature them in a story.

My Freia will always be with me.

Thank you for visiting Michael's Blog and reading "Thanksgiving Day Pies."

Lqurel, I think dogs might be here to teach us, amongst other things, that the concept of 'ownership' is a strange one, and that resources are there for us all. It makes me think of the problems that occurred when Europeans arrived in Australia and the local people hunted some of their farm animals. It was a harsh lesson for the indigenous people that some humans are quite possessive of their 'property'.

I think we've got constant lessons to learn from our dogs, lol.
